CAN'T OUTRUN COVID-19 (The Pandemic Series) is one of over 19 small oil on canvas works painted during the 2020 Pandemic. Each work represents something that was happening at the time. This one reflects how many businesses including gyms were closed and that lockdowns were the norm. Not my regular practice of the arts (I much prefer to work on beautiful and joyous contemporary florals), the piece brings back memories of what we lived through and fortunately for many of us, survived. The daily graphs of the infection rates in the various United States that were flashed hourly by the News Media, ratcheted up concerns but did nothing to ameliorate the population's near hysteria; the "crowns" -- a symbol of the "Corona" virus (the word CORONA literally means CROWN); and the "bubbles" -- symbolic of the viral capsules - all surrounding us and spreading through the environment. And of course, the fact that we were locked down and not allowed to run outside even if we were entirely alone. The whole thing was one huge nightmare, and crossing the line is a metaphor here for having survived and coming out on the other side of this horrific Pandemic.
